A devastating explosion destroyed a home in Ragley, Louisiana, killing a 16-year-old boy from Alabama and injuring five others. The explosion happened on Saturday morning, and firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames. The blast was so powerful that it completely leveled the house, scattered debris over a wide area, and seriously damaged nearby vehicles and a metal outbuilding.
The young victim was identified as Deuce Barrere, a 16-year-old from Theodore, Alabama. News reported that five other people, including Deuce's older sister and mother, were injured and taken to hospitals. Thankfully, a toddler who was in the house was unharmed and is now being cared for by family members.
"This is a heartbreaking tragedy for the family and the entire community," said Louisiana State Fire Marshal Bryan J. Adams.
On Sunday, friends of Deuce Barrere gathered on Dauphin Island, Alabama, to remember him. Deuce was a high school cheerleader, and his girlfriend, Adalynn Hall, shared how he always made sure everyone around him was happy.
Residents near the explosion site told news that the blast felt like an earthquake, with the shock wave knocking items to the floor in their homes and causing power outages.
Ragley is located about 20 miles north of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
