Birmingham’s Beloved Thank You Books Is Doubling Its Space and Its Story

Birmingham’s cherished indie bookstore, Thank You Books, is writing an exciting new chapter. Come spring 2026, the cozy literary haven on Crestwood Boulevard will expand into the neighboring space once occupied by The Total Joint Physical Therapy, nearly doubling its current footprint.

Birmingham’s Beloved Thank You Books Is Doubling Its Space and Its Story

The timing feels poetic; the expansion comes just months after the shop’s sixth anniversary, a milestone for one of Birmingham’s most beloved community spaces.

Co-owner Kristen Iskandrian says the new space will allow the store known for its carefully curated shelves, inclusive events, and fiercely loyal local following to stretch its legs a little.

“It will give us more space for our inventory to breathe,” Iskandrian says. “We’ll have some expanded offerings. We’ll continue to do what we’re doing, but with more space.”

A Bookstore That Keeps Growing and Giving

This marks Thank You Books’ first major expansion since 2021, when it unveiled a larger children’s section to accommodate Birmingham’s youngest readers (and their parents). Since then, the store has become more than just a place to buy books; it's become a literary heartbeat for the city.

Between author readings, book clubs, and community conversations, Thank You Books has quietly become a gathering ground for creatives, thinkers, and bookworms of all kinds.

Making Room for What Matters

The upcoming expansion won’t change the soul of the store if anything, it’ll amplify it. Expect airier aisles, more indie titles, and a refreshed layout designed for browsing, lingering, and discovering.

As Crestwood continues to evolve with new small businesses and local landmarks, Thank You Books remains its cornerstone of culture and curiosity, a reminder that, even in an age of screens, stories still bring us together.

Because sometimes, the best chapters are the ones you make room for.
