Man Shot While Pumping Gas at Brighton Chevron Station
A man sustained injuries from a gunshot while refueling his vehicle late Thursday night at a Chevron station in Brighton.
The incident occurred at 11:55 p.m. at the Chevron on Jaybird Road.
According to Lt. Kenneth Hooten, the 20-year-old victim was pumping gas at pump #2 when a black or dark-colored Chevrolet Traverse pulled up and opened fire.
In a quick response, the victim pulled his girlfriend out of the car, and she took cover underneath the vehicle. The man was struck in the waist by the gunfire.
Once the shooting ceased, the victim managed to get his girlfriend back into the car, and they drove to the Brighton police station seeking assistance.
The assailant in the Chevrolet Traverse sped off toward the interstate, firing additional shots as they fled. The barrage of bullets shattered the gas station's glass windows, though no one inside the store was harmed.
The entire incident was captured on the station's surveillance cameras.
Lt. Hooten, who also serves as the city's assistant fire chief, provided initial medical treatment to the victim at the police station. The victim was then transported to Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
No arrests have been made so far.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Brighton police at 205-425-8934.
