A Birmingham woman died in a terrible hit-and-run on I-59/20 at Arkadelphia Road.

Authorities have established that the victim is 37-year-old Birmingham resident Keiteria Almanique Anderson. Her life was cut short in a cruel tragedy. According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the collision happened around 12:05 a.m., and despite emergency responders arriving quickly, Anderson was pronounced dead at 12:35 a.m. at the scene.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates confirmed the details early Thursday morning, noting that the driver who struck Anderson did not stop and fled the area an action that deepens the sorrow surrounding an already devastating loss. As investigators work to piece together what happened on that dim, late-night roadway, they are urging anyone with information to come forward.

While most a hit-and homicides are horrible, this one is particularly tragic since it ends a life in the dark, leaves a family with unsolved difficulties, and leaves everyone in grief for a person who should have returned home safely.
