Five Suspects Charged with Capital Murder in Mahogany Jackson's Brutal Death

Five suspects involved in the kidnapping and horrific killing of Mahogany Jackson now face capital murder charges. Originally, Blair Green (26), Si’Niya McCall (24), Teja Lewis (26), Giovonnie Clapp (24), and Airana Lashay Robinson (23) were charged with felony murder. However, on September 13, after reviewing the evidence, a Jefferson County grand jury raised the charges to capital murder.

Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr explained that the brutality of the crime led them to seek capital murder charges. He called the act "heinous, atrocious, and uncivilized."

Previous Charges and Suspects Involved

Earlier, three other suspects—Brandon Pope (25), Francis “Ace” Harris (25), and Jeremiah “Kodak” McDowell (18)—were already charged with capital murder during a first-degree kidnapping. Harris is also accused of capital murder during a rape/sodomy, and evidence suggests Harris fired the fatal shot.

Jackson's mother, Gail Maddox, expressed relief at seeing justice for her daughter. "I will be present at every court appearance to face those who took my daughter’s life."

The Investigation

The case began on February 25 when Jackson sent messages to her family, telling them she was being held against her will and sharing her location. The messages, sent around 4 a.m., weren't seen by her family until about 8 a.m. that morning.

Police and her family rushed to her friend's apartment, where Lewis initially claimed Jackson had left at 2 a.m. However, later that day, Jackson's body was discovered in southwest Birmingham on a street known as Dead Man’s Road, a site often used for illegal dumping.

A key witness came forward early in the investigation, providing police with videos, evidence, and the location of Jackson’s body. According to police, Jackson had reportedly stolen a gun, which was then stolen back, leading to a series of violent events that ultimately resulted in her death.

Horrific Details

Jackson was forced at gunpoint to perform oral sex and was brutally beaten. She was stripped, punched, spat on, kicked, and dragged by her hair. The attacks happened at two locations, including Pope’s home and Lewis’s apartment.

Police believe that once the suspects discovered Jackson had messaged her family about her situation, Harris, Pope, and McDowell took her to Dead Man’s Road. Pope admitted that while cleaning out Harris’s car, Harris shot Jackson in the back of the head.

All suspects are currently held without bond in Jefferson County Jail.
