Alabama Among the Worst States for Workers in 2024: New Study Reveals
Alabama ranks as the fourth worst state for workers in the U.S., according to a recent study by Oxfam America, which evaluated wage policies, worker protections, and the right to organize. Neighboring states like Georgia and Mississippi also scored poorly, placing in the bottom rankings.
Alabama has been ranked as one of the worst places to work in the United States, coming in at 49th place in a recent study. The study evaluated all 50 states, along with Puerto Rico and Washington D.C., to determine the best and worst states for workers.
According to the study by Oxfam America, Alabama’s low ranking is due to poor performance in three key areas: wage policies, worker protections, and the right to organize. Specifically, Alabama ranked 48th in wage policies, 50th in worker protections, and 42nd in the right to organize.
Neighboring states also fared poorly, with Georgia ranking 50th and Mississippi at 51st. North Carolina was at the very bottom, in 52nd place.
On the other hand, Washington D.C. was named the best place to work in 2024, achieving the top score of 85.67 out of 100.
