Mike Myers is a candidate for Alabaster City Council who wants to empower young people and alleviate traffic.
ALABASTER, AL— The Ward 1 city council seat in Alabaster is up for grabs for the first time in almost 20 years. Additionally, lifelong community activist Mike Myers says he is prepared to get his hands dirty and strive to not just sustain but also accelerate the city's growth.

Myers, who is well-known in the community, is one of three contenders for the seat that Sophie Martin is leaving empty after an outstanding 17-year term. He faces off against local seamstress Angel Evans and businessman and priest Gerry J. Bivins.
However, Myers is not only interested in keeping Alabaster on course; he also wants to address actual issues, especially those related to traffic, dilapidated structures, and youth possibilities in the community.
Myers remarked, "Ward 1 and our city have made amazing progress." "I want to continue building on that momentum while addressing new opportunities such as economic growth, infrastructure, and youth support."
Resolving Traffic, Closing Gaps, and Paying Attention
A primary concern for Myers? solutions for traffic. According to Myers, the frustration is genuine and solvable, whether you are stalled on Highway 11 during rush hour or navigating past buildings that have been vacant for a long time.
He intends to work on:
easing traffic and enhancing infrastructure, particularly in the vicinity of Highway 11
Restoring dilapidated buildings and transforming deterioration into opportunity
Increasing the influence and scope of the Alabaster Downtown Redevelopment Authority
introducing fresh enterprises and events that target the city's young
For Myers, the position is personal as well as political.
Myers and his spouse Kim have been in Alabaster since 2007, transitioning from youth coach to community leader. Myers, who has been married for 24 years and has two boys, Carson and Ethan, says that growing up in this city has given him a profound respect for its neighborhoods, parks, and people.
He has held numerous positions over the years, including president of the HOA for six years from 2013 to 2020 and a member of the Parks and Recreation Board from 2017 to 2020.
Alabaster Downtown Redevelopment Authority Chairperson since 2023 Graduate of Alabaster's inaugural Government Academy
"I have kept a pretty good ear to the ground—public service and knowing what is going on within our neighborhoods," Myers stated.
Contributing Practical Financial Experience
With a degree from Troy University (Class of '98) and 17 years of banking experience, Myers is currently employed in the Alabama State Treasurer's Office, assisting citizens in obtaining money they might not even be aware they are due.
He claims that his combination of experience in the public and private sectors provides him a distinct advantage when it comes to making wise, long-term choices for Alabaster's future.
As a hands-on community volunteer, he has coached kids baseball for more than a decade and assisted families in need via initiatives like the Red Cross Project Share.
Toward August 26th
August 26 is the day of the Alabaster municipal election, and Myers wants voters to view his campaign as a commitment rather than just a pitch.
He remarked, "I am excited to collaborate with you to keep Alabaster a place we can all be proud to call home."
