Alabama Fishing Vessel Caught with Expired Permit and 45,000 Pounds of Shrimp

A commercial fishing vessel from Alabama was caught with over 45,000 pounds of pink shrimp, illegally harvested in Key West, Florida, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The incident occurred during a routine safety inspection by Coast Guard officials at Station Key West, where it was discovered that the crew was fishing with an expired permit.

Due to this violation, the vessel's journey was immediately halted. While the vessel's homeport is in Alabama, the Coast Guard has not yet disclosed its identity because the investigation is still ongoing.

“We worked with our National Marine Fisheries Service regional partners to terminate the vessel’s voyage after discovering 45,000 pounds of pink shrimp on board without a valid commercial fishing permit,” the Coast Guard reported.

The vessel is now returning to Alabama, where NMFS officers will meet with the captain for further questioning.
