Man Shot Dead at West Birmingham Gas Station: Investigation Ongoing
A man was found shot dead in the parking lot of a west Birmingham gas station. An investigation is ongoing as police search for clues and witnesses.
A man was found dead after being shot early Saturday morning at a gas station in west Birmingham.
Police were called to the Exxon gas station on Third Avenue West at 2:40 a.m. after their gunfire detection system, Shot Spotter, detected several gunshots.
When they arrived, they found the man unresponsive in the parking lot. The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service declared him dead at the scene. His identity hasn’t been released, but he is believed to be Hispanic.
The gas station was closed at the time, but it’s located across from the El Centenario nightclub, which was open.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald mentioned that there isn’t much information available yet. Detectives are looking for witnesses and clues in the area.
This shooting is Birmingham’s 107th homicide of the year. Out of these, eight have been classified as justifiable and are not considered criminal. Two homicides from previous years have victims who died in 2024.
In Jefferson County, there have been 134 homicides, including the 107 in Birmingham.
No arrests have been made so far.
