Tragic Drowning Incident in Vestavia Hills Claims Life of 3-Year-Old
A 3-year-old boy, Luke Brown, tragically drowned in a private lake in Vestavia Hills' Liberty Park. The community gathers for a prayer vigil in his memory.
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in a Vestavia Hills neighborhood on Thursday evening when a 3-year-old boy drowned in a private lake. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the young child as Luke Brown, a resident of the community.
The tragedy occurred in the Liberty Park area, specifically on Lake Colony Drive, where Vestavia Hills police were alerted around 5 p.m. According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, little Luke was discovered unresponsive in the lake located behind his family’s home.
Emergency responders acted swiftly, transporting Luke by ambulance to Children’s of Alabama, accompanied by a police escort. Despite the urgent efforts to save him, Luke was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 5:47 p.m.
In the wake of this tragic event, The Church at Liberty Park has organized a community-wide prayer gathering at 7:30 p.m. to offer support and comfort to the grieving family and neighbors.
