Jaylen Mbakwe’s Heartfelt Gift to Former High School Teammates
Alabama freshman defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe showed his appreciation for his roots by surprising his former high school teammates with a special gift. On Friday, Mbakwe returned to Clay-Chalkville High School, where he once led the football team to glory, and presented each player with a copy of EA Sports College Football 25.
Clay-Chalkville's head coach, Stuart Floyd, shared the news of Mbakwe's generous gesture on "X" this afternoon, highlighting the strong bonds and enduring camaraderie between the young athlete and his former team.
Although Mbakwe now shines in Alabama's defensive secondary, he was the standout quarterback for the Clay-Chalkville Cougars just a year ago. Under his leadership, the team achieved an impeccable 14-0 season and clinched the Class 6A state championship.
In the thrilling title game against Saraland, which featured his current Alabama teammate Ryan Williams, Mbakwe delivered a stellar performance. He scored three rushing touchdowns, threw for another, and amassed 130 rushing yards along with 152 passing yards, going 9-of-17 in the air. His remarkable efforts earned him MVP honors and secured his place as a finalist for the Class 6A Back of the Year award.
Jaylen Mbakwe’s return to his high school with such a meaningful gift underscores the lasting connections formed through sports and the importance of giving back to the community that nurtured his talents.
