Costco's Muffin Size Might Be Shrinking
[TheChronicle] - Could Costco be reducing the size of its renowned muffins?
According to Eat This, Not That, rumors are circulating about a potential change.
In a July 2 Reddit post, an individual claiming to be a Costco employee suggested that the retailer plans to shrink the size of its bakery muffins. Known for their colossal size, often comparable to small cakes, Costco's muffins have a significant reputation.
The post included a side-by-side photo comparing the larger tins used for the current muffins with a smaller pan reportedly intended for future use. The smaller muffins will be sold in packs of eight, whereas the large muffins are currently sold six to a package.
It remains unclear if all Costco muffin varieties will be resized or if the change will affect only certain flavors. Recently, the warehouse chain introduced two new smaller muffin varieties: lemon raspberry and butter pecan.
Costco to Halt Book Sales Until September
In other news, Costco will stop selling books until September.
Books will only be available from September to December and during special promotions. This change is expected to start in January next year.
The New York Times reports that several publishing industry executives attribute the decision to the increased labor involved in stocking books. Unlike most Costco products, which can be rolled out on pallets, books require manual arrangement by workers, leading to higher costs, according to these executives.
