Favorite Quote:Dites moi qui vous aimez, et je vous dirai qui vous etes.” A Creole proverb; translated, it means: “Tell me who you love, and I’ll tell you who you are.” My motto is If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready, something my Big Mama (Mrs. Dorothy H. Barton) said.

Favorite Childhood Memory: Not having to pay bills! My parents worked hard to give my brother and me carefree childhoods. Bike rides, rollerskating, Friday night fish fries and football games, Saturday shopping in Pensacola, staying up late to read, and summers with my cousins at my grandparents' home.

What do you like most about Alabama: Our rich history, vibrant culture, and our influence is vast. It's pitiful how often we're underestimated and stereotyped (except when deserved). Alabama is a startlingly beautiful place, from the Gulf Coast to the Highland Rim. It's the kind of place that gets in your blood and captures your imagination. It’s full of beautiful, talented, good-hearted people who are committed to holding it accountable and seeing it live up to its potential. I won't get into football, but we're clearly gifted there, too.

What do you love about the South: I love our resilience, our manners, our style, our food, the lilt of our accents and the love and heritage that motivate our hospitality. I love our sense of melodrama, humor, and irony, and the fact that no matter where we go, we will make a friend, find a cousin and/or distinguish ourselves in grand fashion. People, places and things that ultimately change the world came/come from this region...from HBCUs to innovations in almost every industry. We're smarter and more complex than acknowledged.

Favorite Place in Alabama: My parents' house, listening to gossip under the carport and watching my niece run in the yard. Passing that "Go to Church or the Devil will Get You" landmark adds an extra thrill.

Favorite Place in the South: New Orleans: whether I'm brunching at Brennan's or "door popping" with family in Gentilly, Hollygrove. Time stops there and I feel most like myself.
