A 17-year-old girl, indicted last month in the 2023 murder of 9-year-old Cailee Knight in Mobile, has been captured in Texas.

The teenager, whose identity has not been released due to her age, was one of five individuals charged in connection with Cailee's death. The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office confirmed on Monday that she will be extradited from Texas to Mobile to face charges.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. on December 5, 2023, when the suspects fired multiple rounds into Cailee's home on Rhett Drive, where she was asleep on a couch. Several other children were in the house at the time, but none were injured.

“It is horrifying and heartbreaking that a 9-year-old girl was shot and killed while she was asleep in her home,” Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said. “Our children must be protected. The sanctity of our homes must be protected.”

Along with the teenage suspect, four others were indicted by a Mobile County grand jury. Ariel Curry, Tyrone Williams, and Ricky Thier face two counts of capital murder and charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Darius Lucky was indicted on two counts of capital murder.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
