Tragic Domestic Shooting in Dothan, Alabama: Mother Killed, Ex-Boyfriend Jailed
A tragic domestic shooting in Dothan, Alabama, results in the death of a mother in front of her children. The ex-boyfriend is now in custody, charged with capital murder.
A 35-year-old mother from Dothan, Alabama, was tragically shot and killed in front of her children. The incident took place late on Friday night.
Dothan police received a 911 call around 11 p.m. about a shooting at a home on East Cottonwood Road. When officers arrived, they found several children inside. One of the children directed the police to Shannette Yvonne Colbert, who was lying on the floor, wounded.
Police officers immediately tried to save Colbert's life by performing CPR and treating her wounds until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Colbert was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators discovered that Colbert had been in a past relationship with 42-year-old Phillip Lee McAdoo, who lives in North Carolina. The two had an argument, during which McAdoo pulled out a gun and shot Colbert multiple times.
The children were able to give the police a description of McAdoo. Responding officers quickly located him, pulled him over, and took him into custody.
McAdoo has been charged with capital murder and is currently being held without bond in the Houston County Jail.
“Everyone deserves relationships free from domestic violence,” said Lt. Scott Owens.
