A young girl is fighting for her life at Children’s Hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening in Montevallo.

In response, the local community has rallied to support Ember Poe's family by raising funds to cover her medical expenses.

According to the Montevallo Police Department, emergency responders were called to a traffic accident at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Spring Creek Road. Upon arrival, they found a juvenile with severe, life-threatening injuries. The child was immediately transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

The Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force has been assigned to investigate the incident.

While police have not yet released the victim's identity, local resident Michele Mickwee, who set up a GoFundMe campaign, confirmed the victim is Ember Poe. The fundraising page describes the situation: "Ember was in a terrible accident when a vehicle struck her. She is in critical condition at Children’s Hospital. The funds raised will go toward her medical bills and other expenses. Please donate what you can. Your support for this precious family is deeply appreciated."

As of Thursday evening, the campaign had raised over $6,600 for Ember's care.
