Mountain Brook Takes the Lead Once More: Boys and Girls Win the 2025 AHSAA 6A Tennis Titles in Grand Style

At Mountain Brook High School, where winning tennis is not only customary but also expected, the tradition lives on. The boys' and girls' teams swept the 80th AHSAA Class 6A State Tennis Championships in Mobile this week in a dominant display that combined grace, grit, and pure athletic brilliance. This sent a powerful message to Alabama's high school tennis scene once again: the Spartans are still that team.

Mountain Brook Takes the Lead Once More: Boys and Girls Win the 2025 AHSAA 6A Tennis Titles in Grand Style

Champions in Reputation and Rhythm

This is a dynasty, not just a victory. The girls' team from Mountain Brook won the state championship for the eighth time in a row, from 2017 to 2025 (not counting the postponed 2020 competition). With this most recent triumph, the girls have now won an incredible 35 AHSAA state titles, bringing them one step closer to UMS-Wright's record of 11 straight victories.

For the boys?
It was the 29th championship, solidifying Mountain Brook's position as a consistent dominan force in high school tennis in Alabama.Even more remarkable is the fact that this was Carlee Petro's first season as head coach. To take home both crowns right away? It is alchemy, not just coaching.

How the Data Turned Out

The girls scored 69 points at the Mobile Tennis Center, easily surpassing the 48 of runner-up UMS-Wright. With Jasper trailing in second place at 53, the boys' squad was even more dominant, scoring an overwhelming 81 points.

The girls from the Spartans demonstrated depth and overall domination, taking home four singles crowns (Nos. 2, 3, 5, and 6) in addition to the No. Three doubles crowns. The boys' team won two of the three doubles titles and five of the six singles trophies, almost completing a perfect sweep.

Highlights of Star Performances on the Court

Sarah Ladd, the outstanding senior from UMS-Wright, finished her high school career in style by defeating Clare LaCour of McGill-Toolen in a nail-biting three-set match to win the No. 1 singles title: 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. Ladd has an outstanding 17-3 record at the end of the season.

Olivia Roberts of Mountain Brook was clinical at No.
singles, defeating Vivi Evans of Homewood in straight sets (6-0, 6-4).

At Nos. 3, 5, and 6, respectively, Leslie Mitchell, Mary Margaret Malatesta, and Sarah Still gave Mountain Brook victories, demonstrating not only skill but also composure under duress.

Ann-Dyas Thompson of UMS-Wright defeated Kelcie Dowling of Mountain Brook in a grueling three-set thriller, 1-6, 6-1, 16-14, in the No. 4 singles final.

Northridge freshman Will Thorn, who startled the audience by defeating senior Thomas Austin 6-1, 6-2 in the No.
1 singles final, was the sole weakness in Mountain Brook's defenses on the boys' side. In an otherwise stellar 23-win season, it was Austin's tenth defeat.

In response, Mountain Brook took control of the last singles court:

Freeman Quint (No. 2)

Goodson, Hews (No. 3)

Gayden, Max (No. 4)

(No. 5) Tony Sciara

Palaniappan Karna (No. 6)

Leslie Mitchell and Sarah Still of Mountain Brook won the No. 3 spot in doubles, while Ladd and Kate Huddle of UMS-Wright won the No. 1 spot.
