Inmate Fatally Stabbed at Alabama’s William Donaldson Correctional Facility
A violent incident at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in west Jefferson County has resulted in the death of an inmate.

Authorities have identified the deceased as 30-year-old Cordel Ladon Battle. Battle was serving a life sentence for a first-degree robbery conviction from 2013 in Madison County.
According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, the fatal assault occurred at approximately 6:41 p.m. Battle suffered multiple sharp force injuries and was pronounced dead at the prison at 7:28 p.m.
The Alabama Department of Corrections’ Law Enforcement Services Division is actively investigating the incident. Prison officials have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack or potential suspects.
This case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the events leading up to the fatal altercation.
