Alabama Woman Found Dead; Husband Charged with Murder

Authorities reported that 64-year-old Stephen Miller Sr. contacted law enforcement on Monday, stating that his wife, 57-year-old Gloria Miller, had vanished from their home on Halls Mill Road on Saturday, February 22.

However, the investigation quickly took a grim turn. Detectives uncovered multiple signs indicating foul play, prompting an extensive search. On Tuesday, authorities discovered Gloria Miller’s body in Geneva County, approximately one mile from the county line, in a dry creek bed beneath a bridge on Geneva County Road 68.

Even before her disappearance was officially reported, some of Gloria Miller’s personal belongings were found abandoned in the parking lot of a shopping center in Dothan. Investigators determined that Stephen Miller had intentionally placed the items there just hours before they were discovered and turned in by a local business.

As the investigation unfolded, Stephen Miller admitted to law enforcement that he and his wife had a physical altercation on Saturday. During the confrontation, he confessed to manually strangling her to death.

Following the discovery of Gloria Miller’s body, her remains were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.

Stephen Miller was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Houston County Jail with bond set at $1.5 million.

Court records reveal that in the past six months, Stephen Miller had twice filed for protection from abuse orders against his wife. In July, he claimed she had made threats against him and other family members, including a threat to kill him. He further alleged that she posed a danger to him and his son.

Just last month, he once again sought legal protection, stating that Gloria Miller was determined to ruin his life. However, both requests were later dismissed at his own request.

Dothan police extended their condolences to Gloria Miller’s family and emphasized the importance of seeking help for domestic violence. Authorities urge victims to reach out to law enforcement or local support services if they find themselves in a dangerous situation.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gloria Miller’s family during this difficult time.
