Dabo Swinney’s Radio Show Changes: No More Live Calls, Fan Questions Now via Text or Email
Clemson's Dabo Swinney has stopped taking live calls on his weekly radio show. The change follows a controversial call from a fan, but listeners can still submit questions via text or email.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney will no longer take live calls on his weekly radio show. Instead, fans will submit their questions through text or email.
According to news reporter Chapel Fowler, the show will continue, but with this new format. Fowler shared on Twitter, "It’s official: Clemson coach Dabo Swinney will no longer take live calls from fans on his weekly radio show. The new format is called ‘Tiger Sports Hour with Dabo Swinney.’ Fans can submit questions via text/email. The first show airs tonight at 8 on @1055TheROAR."
The decision to stop live calls was influenced by a fan's call last football season. During Clemson’s 4-4 start, a fan named "Tyler from Spartanburg" questioned why Swinney, who earns nearly $11 million annually, was coaching a struggling team.
Swinney responded with a lengthy rant, defending his record and achievements with the Tigers. He reminded the fan that Clemson had won 11 games the previous season and had a strong history of success under his leadership.
Swinney also emphasized that Clemson had won two national titles in recent years, along with multiple ACC championships. He admitted this year was challenging, but he took full responsibility for the team's performance.
In a press conference the next day, Swinney said he was defending the program and didn't regret his response to the fan.
The new format for the show aims to keep fan interaction while avoiding similar incidents in the future.
