Former Alabama Prep Kicker Secures $16.5 Million NFL Contract Extension

Evan McPherson, renowned for his clutch field goals and affectionately dubbed “Money Mac” by fans, has solidified his financial future with a significant new deal. The Cincinnati Bengals have awarded McPherson a lucrative three-year contract extension worth $16.5 million, as confirmed by the Cincinnati Enquirer and NFL Network on Friday. This extension could see McPherson remaining with the Bengals until the end of the 2027 season.

Previously, McPherson had one year left on his original four-year contract valued at $3.824 million, which he signed after being drafted 149th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Having completed three seasons, McPherson was in line for a new contract, as he would have become an unrestricted free agent next offseason without an extension.

Throughout his 49 regular-season games with Cincinnati, McPherson has achieved impressive stats, making 78 of 93 field-goal attempts and 126 of 132 extra-point attempts. His perfect record in seven playoff games includes all 19 field goals attempted.

McPherson’s ability to deliver long-distance kicks is particularly noteworthy. He holds the Bengals’ record for the most 50-yard field goals, with 21, and is tied for the most 50-yarders in the NFL since his debut in 2021. His 59-yard field goal against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 11, 2022, remains the longest in Bengals history.

In the previous season, McPherson was flawless from inside 50 yards, converting all 59 attempts, including 19 field goals and 40 extra points. He also achieved a 7-of-12 success rate on field goals from 50 yards or more in 2023.

Before making his mark in the NFL, McPherson distinguished himself in high school at Fort Payne, where he kicked a 60-yard field goal and executed an 84-yard punt. His high school career culminated in his participation in the 2018 Under Armour All-American Game, followed by three seasons at Florida.
