Alabama Woman Discovers Intruder Locked in Bathroom with Her Child

A man from Decatur is now facing several serious charges after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home in Trinity, Alabama, and locking himself in a bathroom with her child until police intervened.

Melvin Nickson Jr., 41, has been arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal mischief.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at a residence on Lamon Drive. According to court documents, the homeowner awoke to find Nickson inside her house. Panicking, she watched as he seized her child and fled to a bathroom, locking the door behind him.

The terrified mother immediately called the police. When an officer arrived, he engaged Nickson in conversation, eventually convincing him to unlock the door. The child then ran to their mother, unharmed.

Nickson was promptly taken into custody. Authorities also noted damage to a gate on the property, suggesting forced entry.

Nickson is currently held at the Morgan County Jail without bond as he awaits his hearing.
