32 Teams Punch Tickets to Elite Eight After Day 1 of Alabama Super Regional Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The first day of the AHSAA Super Regional volleyball tournament had everything fans could ask for: long rallies, heart-stopping comebacks, and moments that will be remembered long after the final whistle. By nightfall, 32 teams across Alabama had earned the right to call themselves Elite Eight qualifiers.

For Hewitt-Trussville, it was more than just a strong showing; it was history repeating itself, in the best possible way. With two determined wins on Wednesday, the Huskies booked their fourth trip to the Elite Eight in school history and their first state tournament appearance since 1989 ending a 36-year drought that few thought would last this long.
“It doesn’t even feel real yet,” said one player, smiling through exhaustion after the final point. “We’ve worked for this all season every practice, every drill, every late night. Now it’s finally paying off.”
A Long Climb Back to the Top
The Huskies’ return didn’t happen overnight. Under the calm but focused leadership of their coaching staff, Hewitt-Trussville has spent the last few seasons rebuilding from the ground up focusing on fundamentals, chemistry, and a belief that grit still wins matches.
Known for their sharp defense and a never-say-die attitude, the Huskies clawed back from deficits in both matches Wednesday, showing composure beyond their years. Each rally told the same story of a team that simply refused to blink.
The Super Regionals Deliver Drama
Across Alabama, gyms were packed and the energy was electric as teams from every classification battled for their spot in the AHSAA State Championships. While new programs showed their readiness to alter the narrative, established programs demonstrated why they are always a contender. Every court had a different story, with teams persevering under duress, players stepping up when it mattered most, and seniors battling for one more day to prolong their seasons.
There were many sets that went the entire length, underdogs defeating favorites, and powerhouses showing off their depth.
By the end of the day, it was clear: this year’s state tournament is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory.
Eyes on the Elite Eight
Now, all eyes turn to Birmingham.Intensity, passion, and a display of the finest high school volleyball in Alabama are all promised during the AHSAA Elite Eight State Volleyball Championships.
However, the significance is more profound for Hewitt-Trussville.After nearly 40 years apart, their return to the state stage appears to be an act of atonement and
shows that even the longest droughts can be overcome with patience and persistence.
As the Huskies prepare for the next test, one thing is certain: they are not just vying for a trophy. They represent all the teams, athletes, and coaches who helped lay the foundation for this moment.
Those who never gave up hope are sometimes rewarded; history does not always repeat itself.
