According to police, officers were called around 1:50 p.m. to the 4300 block of 15th Street after witnesses reported a person lying on the side of the road. When first responders arrived, they found a 17-year-old boy beside his vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was conscious and alert when officers reached him. Paramedics rushed him to UAB Hospital, where he remains in stable condition, officials said.

Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough said detectives quickly gathered information about a potential suspect and the vehicle involved. Their search led them to a secluded area off Koppers Drive, where they found the suspect’s car.

Working alongside the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were able to recover the vehicle and take the suspect into custody at his home just a few hours later.
