Starbucks and Interstellar Pizza Land at Huntsville International Airport

Travelers flying out of Huntsville International Airport (HSV) have two new reasons to arrive a little early before boarding. The airport just unveiled its first-ever Starbucks and welcomed local favorite Interstellar Pizza, giving passengers the chance to enjoy a fresh latte, craft beer, or a slice of hot pizza while waiting for their flights to Washington, D.C., Orlando, Los Angeles, and beyond.

A New Flavor for Airport Dining

Airport officials describe the openings as the start of a long-awaited dining transformation. Joey Ceci, Chairman of the Airport Board, explained that this is about more than simply adding food choices:

“We’re more than doubling our food and beverage options, and this is only one piece of our commitment to being the region’s preferred airport for travelers.”

The two restaurants are located between Gates 8 and 10 in a 2,000-square-foot space that once held offices for the TSA. Now, the area has been reimagined as a lively hub of coffee, pizza, and local brews, including taps from Huntsville’s InnerSpace Brewing.

Both Starbucks and Interstellar Pizza are open from an hour before the first flight departs until the final flight of the day arrives—making them convenient whether you’re catching an early departure or a late-night arrival.

Kevin Vandeberg, COO of the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority, added:

“This is phase one. Travelers can expect two more phases of upgrades to follow.”

Goodbye Spaceport Café (For Now)

While travelers enjoy these fresh arrivals, another familiar spot is temporarily closing. The Spaceport Café and Beer Garden has shut its doors for a total makeover. The redesign will introduce:

A short-order grill for hot meals.

Flat Top Pork Fried Rice

An Everbowl kiosk offering smoothies and superfoods.

A full commercial kitchen designed to serve made-to-order breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a sit-down, restaurant-style setting.

The renovation is expected to last about four months, and officials emphasized that the revamped space will highlight locally sourced ingredients.

Pop-Up Dining in the Meantime

To keep passengers satisfied while renovations are underway, HSV has rolled out several temporary dining options throughout the concourse:

Full-Service Bar (Gates 6–8): A relaxed lounge for wine, cocktails, and craft beer.

Multi-Purpose Station (Gates 2–4): A convenient spot for drinks, snacks, travel essentials, and quick remedies.

Grab-and-Go Kiosk (Gate 5): Ideal for passengers who need something quick before boarding.

Beyond food, retail updates are also in motion. Comet Coffee and Orbit + Go will take over the pre-security shop near the waiting area, and the popular Discover Huntsville retail store inside the concourse is set for a full renovation.

A First and Last Impression

For HSV leadership, these changes aren’t just about convenience—they’re about creating a lasting memory of Huntsville.

“We’re the welcome mat and the farewell wave.”

The airport has partnered with Tailwind Hospitality, a North Carolina-based company with a reputation for top-notch concession management, to ensure that customer service matches the quality of the food and retail offerings.

Looking Ahead

With Starbucks and Interstellar Pizza now open, and additional dining concepts on the way, Huntsville International is setting the stage for a much more dynamic passenger experience. HSV may be known as a regional airport, but these updates show it’s aiming for a travel environment that feels bigger, fresher, and unmistakably Huntsville.
