"Hûrt Our Sister and We Hûrt You!"
Sisters Accused in Mûrdér-for-Hire Plot Against Son-in-Law
Mitzy Gaye Smith, 54, Judy Owen, 61, and Sandra Grimes, 57, face charges of conspiracy to commit mûrdér for hire, conspiracy to transfer a firearm for use in a vîolent crîmé, and using interstate commerce facilities to commit mûrdér for hire, according to court documents.
The sisters allegedly attempted to hire a woman to kîll Grimes' son-in-law with a lethal dose of héroîn, but stated they did not care if he was stàbbed or shót, as long as the job was completed.
The investigation began when the informant reported that Grimes claimed her son-in-law had assàulted Grimes' daughter and their children, and had drûgged and forced her daughter into sèxuàl acts with others.
Grimes and Owen reportedly drove to Louisiana to show the would-be àssassîn the home of their target, passing by the location multiple times. They described the son-in-law as a drûg user and suggested injecting him with a lèthal dose of hèroin. They also mentioned that they had previously paid $10,000 to another person to carry out the mûrdér, but he absconded with the money.
The informant agreed to the plan but demanded more money. Owen gave her $350 for the héroîn after allegedly paying $500 for the informant's dog's veterinary bill. On a second trip to Louisiana, Owen suggested kîllîng the target outside a courthouse, but the informant refused due to the presence of cameras.
Smith later delivered a box containing Christmas decorations to the informant, which concealed a 9mm Phoenix Arms handgûn with an obliterated serial number and a magazine with three bûllets. This indicated the seriousness of the sisters' intentions, according to court documents.
Grimes and the informant, using fake names, exchanged text messages about the plot. Grimes allegedly sent the informant $1,010 via Cash App for the hit and expenses in Louisiana. In a March text message, Grimes instructed the informant to "stàb him in the heart at the door or shóot his a-- in the heart or face."
Dom Soto, Smith's attorney, questioned the credibility of the FBI informant, highlighting that she is an admitted drûg user with at least five fèlony convictions and is prohibited from possessing a fîrearm.
"There's three sisters that are being tied together by the allegations made by a person who carries a lot of baggage as far as prior criminal history," Soto told Mobile's NBC affiliate WPMI.
