Alabama State Trooper Resigns After Arrest in Montgomery County Child Sex Trafficking Operation

An Alabama State Trooper has stepped down from his position after being arrested on charges related to child sex crimes.

Ryan Christian Rhodes, a 26-year-old Senior Trooper from Tallassee, was arrested on August 23, as revealed by court documents released on Monday.

Rhodes faces several serious charges, including using the internet to solicit a child, traveling to meet a child for sex, and resisting arrest.

His arrest was part of a larger operation conducted over two days last week by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, targeting sex trafficking. Nearly a dozen people were taken into custody during this operation.

The operation took place on August 22 and 23, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery Police Department, and the Covenant Rescue Group.

Sheriff Derrick Cunningham has scheduled a press conference at 2 p.m. to discuss the details of the operation.

According to the charging documents, Rhodes was arrested in the early hours of August 23 at a hotel in Montgomery. When officers attempted to handcuff him, he resisted by refusing to put his hands behind his back and continued to struggle with them.

ALEA Lt. Jeremy Burkett confirmed that Rhodes resigned from his position on Friday.
