Oneonta Coach Arrested for Soliciting Nude Photos from Student
A Blount County coach and teacher has been arrested for soliciting nude photos from a high school student. The investigation revealed an inappropriate relationship between the educator and a student.
A local coach and teacher, Luis Vazquez, 29, has been arrested and placed on administrative leave following allegations of soliciting nude photos from a high school student. Vazquez, a former soccer coach of the year, was charged with electronic solicitation of a student by a school employee, a Class A misdemeanor.
The investigation began in July after school officials reported a potential inappropriate relationship between Vazquez and a student. A search warrant for Vazquez's cell phone led to his confession of an inappropriate relationship with a student under his authority.
Both the Oneonta City Schools Superintendent Craig Sosebee and District Attorney Pamela Casey praised the individual who reported the allegations, emphasizing the importance of speaking out against such misconduct. Vazquez, a former student and athlete in the Oneonta community, joined the school in 2021 as a science teacher and soccer coach.
Local authorities are calling for stricter penalties for this type of crime, and the case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of reporting any suspected misconduct.
