Grandaddy fries bid adieu to the beloved Alabama restaurant "Local Roots," which closes its last doors.

The previously modest food truck from Alabama that became a local legend, Local Roots, has officially shuttered its last brick-and-mortar location in Tuscaloosa after eight delicious years. Longtime fans were left speechless and hankering after a final bite of the renowned grandaddy fries after the cherished burger and fries restaurant posted a heartfelt farewell on Instagram.

The July 23 post stated, "With heavy hearts, we share that this Thursday will be our last day open." "We are so grateful to this community for all of your love, support, and loyalty."

The fried royalty of Alabama then quietly left the culinary stage.

Local Roots was more than simply a burger place—it was a tale, from food truck to fry fame. A danger. A dream steeped in familial tradition.

The creators took a risk when they launched a food truck in 2016 with only a third-generation family fry recipe and a menu packed of personality. That recipe—crispy, craggy, and soul-filled became the standard. Known as "Grandaddy Fries," these potatoes were more than simply food; they were a part of folklore, passed down through the generations like a treasured family artifact, and served hot in a paper boat.

Their final statement stated, "In 2016, we set out with a dream to deliver something new and inventive to Tuscaloosa." “We took a leap of faith with a food truck and a third-generation family fry recipe.”

Oh, the community's reaction.

In response, a town says, "Gone but Never Forgotten."

Residents of Tuscaloosa used Instagram to express their sorrow about the closure in the best way they knew how, by posting sincere messages and pleading for the fry recipe.

One local wrote, "So sad."

My absolute favorite spot in town. Another person remarked, "I am not sure what I will do without grandaddy fries."

Many believed the Tuscaloosa facility would survive the previous closure of its Cahaba Heights location, which was part of an ambitious growth plan for 2022.
