A former teacher and coach at Pleasant Grove High School, Alex James Reedy, has been arrested on felony charges of sexual contact with a student. The 28-year-old was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Thursday but was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
Reedy's employment with the school district was terminated in May 2024, prior to the criminal charges being filed. The investigation began after school officials alerted local police to a potential incident involving a student.
Pleasant Grove Police Chief Danny Reid confirmed the arrest and stated that the investigation is ongoing. The school superintendent, Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, expressed the district’s cooperation with law enforcement and emphasized their commitment to student safety.
Reedy is a Pleasant Grove High School alumnus who later attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He joined the school's faculty in 2020 as a social studies teacher.
