Fatal Fire in Mountain View Mobile Home Claims Life, Fire Captain Injured
Early yesterday morning, tragedy struck a Mountain View mobile home community as a fire ravaged one of the residences, resulting in a fatality and a fire captain’s injury. The City of Mountain View Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the blaze in the 400 block of Moffett Boulevard at approximately 5:40 a.m.
The first engine company arrived just six minutes later, with firefighters conducting a primary search of the mobile home. They located one resident, who had already succumbed by the time of their arrival, battling a fire that heavily engulfed the structure, flames visible tearing through the side of the mobile home. A 1 ¾ inch hose line aggressively employed by firefighters to combat the fire resulted in the floor’s collapse, which caused a fire captain to fall and dislocate his shoulder. Transported after that, he was taken to a local hospital.
The intense efforts of the fire department ensured that the flames did not spread to neighboring homes. Though the fire was successfully extinguished, the initial residence suffered significant damage, with losses exceeding $250,000. Thankfully, no additional injuries beyond the fatality and the captain’s accident occurred during the incident.
Fire investigators were reported at the scene by the city's website, working to determine the fire’s cause and reconstruct the sequence of events that led to such a disaster. Assisting the Mountain View teams, City of Palo Alto Fire Department units also responded and joined together in the battle against the flames.
