Dems, Corporate Media Rushed To Cite FBI Data Showing Crime Decrease — Experts Say The Numbers Are Flawed

The FBI has discreetly updated its 2022 crime data, now indicating an increase in crime rates rather than the previously reported decline. Experts warn that these inaccuracies are just the beginning.

Initially, the FBI claimed that violent crime had decreased by 2.1% in 2022. However, this figure was recently revised to show a 4.5% increase. Analysts speaking to the Daily Caller News Foundation highlighted various issues with the FBI’s data, including incomplete data collection, unclear reporting standards, the exclusion of unreported crimes, and the challenges of measuring crime on a national scale.

Democrats, corporate media, and political commentators have often referenced the FBI’s data to argue that crime has decreased under President Joe Biden. Recently, they highlighted new figures for 2023, which indicate a 3% drop in violent crime. However, the unexpected revision of the 2022 data raises doubts about the accuracy of crime trends across the country.

According to John Lott, Director of the Crime Prevention Research Center, the FBI's criteria for classifying a reported crime do not encompass all 911 calls, which can lead to a distorted representation of crime rates. “For the FBI to count a crime, a police report must be filed,” Lott explained. “In recent years, if you call 911 and say it’s not an emergency or that the suspect has left the scene, you’ll need to go to the police station to file a report.”
