Birmingham Store Shooting Ruled Justified After Social Media Dispute
A fatal shooting at a Birmingham convenience store, linked to a social media dispute, has been ruled justified. No charges will be filed in the death of Malike Williams, 26.
The death of a man shot at a convenience store in southwest Birmingham has been ruled as justified, meaning no criminal charges will be filed.
Malike Williams, 26, was shot around 5 p.m. on September 24 at Big Boy Convenience Store, located on Pearson Avenue S.
Police said the shooting may have started because of an argument over a social media post.
Williams passed away while being taken to UAB Hospital.
"We believe two men were involved in a confrontation. Both had guns, and one of them opened fire," Officer Truman Fitzgerald explained last week.
On Tuesday, Sgt. LaQuitta Wade shared that investigators presented their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney, who ruled the shooting justified.
This is the ninth time this year that a homicide in Birmingham has been ruled as justified.
Williams’ friend, Damone Gardner, 34, was shot and killed just a few hours later, possibly because of an argument about Williams’ death. No arrests have been made in Gardner's case yet.
