A suspect is in custody following last week’s fatal shooting in East Lake.

Anthony Rudolfo Major Jr., 27, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Paul Devaried Terry Jr.

Major was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:48 a.m. on Wednesday and is being held without bond.

Officers from the East Precinct were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. on Friday to the 8300 block of Fourth Avenue North after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Terry inside a shed behind an abandoned house near East Lake Park.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced Terry dead at the scene at 12:40 p.m.

According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, Terry had been visiting a home in the 8200 block of Fourth Avenue North. During his visit, a verbal altercation broke out between him and Major, who was also at the residence. Major fired multiple shots, and shell casings were found in the roadway.

Terry fled about a block before collapsing in the shed. A bystander subsequently called 911.

Details regarding the nature of the argument have not been released.
