42-year-old ID’d as man killed in shootout during domestic argument in Birmingham; 2nd victim badly hurt
A violent altercation in Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood turned deadly Monday afternoon, leaving one man dead and another critically injured in what authorities believe was a shootout.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 42-year-old Christon Deandre Thorn of Birmingham. Police say the incident began as a domestic dispute between Thorn and his girlfriend, which escalated into gunfire involving a third person.
Officers responded to the 1500 block of 52nd Street in Ensley around 4:35 p.m., arriving within seconds of the shooting. They found two males suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Thorn dead at the scene at 4:53 p.m. The second victim, who may be a juvenile, was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald, multiple witnesses reported that Thorn may have drawn a firearm during the dispute, leading to an exchange of gunfire with the second victim. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting.
