Auburn Freshmen Making Waves in Fall Camp: Hugh Freeze Highlights Standouts
Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze highlights standout freshmen in fall camp, including Demarcus Riddick, Jay Crawford, Malik Blocton, Amaris Williams, and DeAndre Carter. Discover the top 2024 recruits making waves this season.
Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers are already seeing promising returns from their highly-ranked 2024 recruiting class, which secured the eighth spot nationally according to 247Sports. While Auburn's impressive wide receiver recruits have garnered much attention, Freeze has highlighted several other freshmen who are making significant impressions during fall camp.
Leading the charge is Demarcus Riddick, a five-star linebacker who was an early commitment for Auburn last summer. Freeze has high expectations for Riddick, noting his impressive growth and athleticism. "I think he’s going to be outstanding," Freeze commented. Auburn senior linebacker Eugene Asante echoed this sentiment, praising Riddick’s speed and anticipated impact on the Tigers' defense.
Another standout is four-star defensive back Jay Crawford, who has been competing for a cornerback spot since spring. Freeze is confident in Crawford's potential, and Auburn wide receiver Robert Lewis has also noted Crawford's impressive skills and tenacity on the field.
Freshman defensive lineman Malik Blocton, who is the younger brother of former Auburn player Marcus Harris, has also caught Freeze’s eye. Despite the defensive line coach's reservations about his current status, Blocton’s strong performance during a recent scrimmage has earned him first-team consideration.
Edge rusher Amaris Williams, a late addition to Auburn’s recruiting class after flipping from Florida, has also impressed. Freeze and defensive edge coach Josh Aldridge are enthusiastic about Williams' raw talent and athleticism, despite some areas needing refinement.
Lastly, offensive lineman DeAndre Carter, who joined Auburn from Mater Dei High School, is another freshman making waves. Freeze and offensive line coach Jake Thornton both acknowledge Carter’s potential and athleticism, though they emphasize the need for continued development.
Freeze remains excited about all the new talent, including the elite wide receivers who are also making a strong impact. "We’re high on Malcolm, Perry, and Bryce. I think all of those guys — we hit on all four of those receivers," he said.
