Connor Stalions Makes Unexpected Comeback as High School Defensive Coordinator
Former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions, involved in a major sign-stealing scandal, has been hired as the defensive coordinator at Mumford High School in Detroit. Despite ongoing NCAA investigations, Stalions begins his new role for the struggling Mustangs.
Connor Stalions, the former Michigan football staffer entangled in the sign-stealing scandal, is making headlines again with a new coaching position. According to a report by the Detroit News, Stalions has been appointed as the defensive coordinator at Mumford High School in Detroit.
Stalions, who resigned from his role as an offensive analyst for the Wolverines in November following the scandal's revelation, has been a central figure in the ongoing NCAA investigation. His name appeared prominently in a recently leaked NCAA Letter of Inquiry.
William McMichael, head coach at Mumford, expressed his unconventional choice with the Detroit News: “I’ve got the most talked-about man in college football right now, Connor Stalions. He’s my new defensive coordinator.”
Although Stalions has not yet faced formal sanctions from the NCAA, he is anticipated to encounter repercussions for his alleged lack of cooperation with the investigation. This scenario mirrors the situation of former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, who was hit with a six-year show cause order and a one-year suspension for NCAA violations before accepting a coaching role at his alma mater, Plainview High School.
Mumford High School has struggled in recent seasons, with a record of 1-8 in each of the last two years and a winning record not achieved since a 6-4 finish in 2019. The Mustangs will kick off their 2024 season against Thurston on August 30.
