Authorities have arrested a Center Point man in connection with the May murder of Carlos Leton Searight, a 33-year-old man found shot to death in the front yard of a Birmingham home in the East Lake neighborhood.
Na’Derious Jackson, 24, has been charged with murder following an extensive investigation by Birmingham police. The warrant for Jackson’s arrest was issued in July, and law enforcement had been actively searching for him since then.
On Monday, Jackson was apprehended by the Birmingham Police Department's Crime Reduction Team. He was taken into custody and booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he remains without bond.
The fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday, May 7, when officers from the East Precinct were dispatched to the 6800 block of 1st Avenue South after multiple reports of a person being shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered Searight lying unresponsive in the front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, Searight was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators recovered nine shell casings at the site, but the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, with authorities yet to disclose any further details.
