Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery to Fresh Groceries in Over 1,000 U.S. Cities

Amazon is once again reshaping the way Americans shop. The e-commerce giant has officially rolled out fresh grocery delivery as part of its Same-Day Delivery service—a move already available in more than 1,000 cities and towns across the country.

And this is just the beginning. Amazon says it plans to double that reach by the end of the year, bringing the service to over 2,300 locations.

Milk, Mystery Novels, and More All in One Cart

Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, explained the expansion in a press release, highlighting Amazon’s focus on making shopping “simpler, faster, and more affordable.”

With the update, customers can now bundle just about anything into one order:

A gallon of milk with your headphones.

Fresh oranges and apples alongside your favorite paperback thriller.

Frozen pizza tossed in with paintbrushes for a weekend DIY project.

And the best part? Everything shows up at your doorstep within hours no separate checkout, no juggling apps, just one seamless cart.

What It Costs

Prime members: Same-day grocery delivery is free on orders over $25.

If the order is under $25, members can still get it delivered for just $2.99.

Non-Prime customers: Regardless of the amount of the order, the service is available for a fixed $12.99 price.

The Significance of It

The shift represents the evolution of contemporary buying and goes beyond simple convenience. Amazon is putting its money on a one-stop digital cart that combines everyday essentials with luxury items, rather than rushing to several stores or balancing six different apps.

It is a small but significant change in the way we view groceries. Amazon is integrating grocery shopping into your daily routine, right alongside your books, tools, and technological devices, rather than treating it as a distinct "chore."

It is another way that Amazon is establishing itself as the go-to marketplace for a lot of things, including families, working professionals, and everyone else who wishes they had more hours in the day.
