Fairfield Man Faces Capital Murder Charge in Birmingham Shooting Streamed Live on Clubhouse

A Fairfield resident has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that unfolded in real-time on the social audio app Clubhouse.
Roddregus Williams-Johnson, 32, has been charged with capital murder following the death of 35-year-old Brandon Lee on Saturday night. The tragic event was broadcast live via Clubhouse, a social audio platform akin to a Zoom meeting.
The Birmingham Police Department responded to a distress call around 11:55 p.m. on Saturday at an apartment on 30th Avenue North, located within the Collegeville public housing area. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered a man and woman with serious injuries. Despite emergency efforts, Lee was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, two children sleeping in the home were unharmed.
The altercation appears to have originated on Clubhouse, where listeners reported escalating tensions and urged the police to be called. As the situation deteriorated, gunshots were heard. Williams-Johnson allegedly fired into the apartment, with someone inside returning fire, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
By 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Williams-Johnson arrived at UAB Hospital with a gunshot wound from the incident. North Precinct officers promptly detained him.
Subsequent investigations by BPD detectives led to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office issuing a capital murder warrant, along with an attempted murder charge.
Williams-Johnson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:52 p.m. on Monday and remains held without bond. Authorities confirmed that Williams-Johnson and Lee were acquainted.
