$22 Million Expansion to Double Size of Secret Service Training Facility in Hoover
HOOVER, Ala. Something big is happening in Hoover and it’s not just another construction project. City leaders are celebrating the start of a $22 million expansion to the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI), a facility run alongside the U.S. Secret Service that has quietly become one of the nation’s most respected training centers for cybercrime investigation.

The new addition, which will rise within the Hoover Public Safety Center, will nearly double the institute’s size, adding about 37,000 square feet of new classrooms, an auditorium, office suites, and shared workspaces. Once finished, the expansion will allow the NCFI to train more than 8,000 students each year, more than double its current capacity.
Funding comes from a Department of Homeland Security grant, and construction is expected to wrap up by summer 2027. The city tapped M.J. Harris Construction Services as general contractor earlier this year.
Since it opened in 2008, the NCFI has been quietly shaping the country’s fight against cybercrime. The center trains law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and judges from across the United States, equipping them with the skills to trace digital evidence, investigate online fraud, and respond to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
For Mayor Frank Brocato, the project represents both civic pride and national purpose.
“Its presence not only delivers significant economic benefits to our community but also highlights Hoover and the state of Alabama as national leaders in the fight against cybercrime,” Brocato said. “This expansion marks another milestone in our 17-year partnership with the NCFI.”
City officials say the expansion speaks to Hoover’s long-term vision investing in public safety innovation and ensuring Alabama remains a key player in national cybersecurity efforts.
When the new wing opens, the NCFI will stand among the largest and most advanced cybercrime training facilities in America, a place where local investment meets global impact and where Hoover’s name continues to echo far beyond state lines
