2024 Sun Belt Conference West Division Predictions: Troy and South Alabama's Rankings
In the latest Sun Belt Conference West Division rankings for 2024, Troy is projected to finish second, while South Alabama is placed fifth, according to league coaches' votes announced on Monday.
The Trojans, who have clinched the Sun Belt title for the past two seasons, garnered four out of 14 first-place votes. Texas State, the frontrunner for the division, received nine first-place votes, with Louisiana securing the remaining one.
South Alabama is ranked fifth in the preseason poll, trailing Texas State (92 points), Troy (68 points), Louisiana (66 points), and Arkansas State (65 points). Southern Miss (31 points) is projected to finish sixth, and Louisiana (16 points) rounds out the rankings in seventh place.
In the East Division, Appalachian State is the favorite, having received 12 first-place votes. James Madison, predicted to finish second, received the other two first-place votes.
The Mountaineers accumulated 96 poll points, leading James Madison (79 points), Coastal Carolina (67 points), Georgia Southern (50 points), Marshall (49 points), Old Dominion (32 points), and Georgia State (19 points). Notably, there was no overall conference champion selection in this preseason poll.
