San Jose State University Volleyball Coach Suspended After Comments About Team’s Transgender Player: Report

San Jose State University (SJSU) suspended a volleyball coach on Saturday for voicing concerns about a transgender athlete on the team, according to Outkick.

Associate volleyball head coach Melissa Batie-Smoose was suspended indefinitely after expressing her thoughts on Blaire Fleming, the transgender player on the team, as reported by Outkick.

“The associate head coach of the San Jose State University women’s volleyball team is not with the team at this time, and we will not provide further information on this matter,” SJSU told Outkick.

Batie-Smoose recounted that she was called by administration to speak privately and informed of her suspension. She reportedly wasn’t allowed to collect her belongings and was instructed not to speak to the media.

“This is just another way San Jose State has been trying to silence people who are standing up for their First Amendment rights and for what’s right,” Batie-Smoose stated to the outlet.
