Rodrigue “Peyton” Ramzy, 28, faces charges of second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and engaging in a sex act as a school employee, according to law enforcement officials. The Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit confirmed that the charges were filed on Saturday, with Ramzy’s bond set at $15,000.
Ramzy, a resident of McCalla, was employed at Sipsey Valley High School. Before becoming an educator, he played college football at Tuskegee University and was also a member of the Birmingham Stallions.
Following the arrest, Tuscaloosa County Schools Superintendent Keri Johnson announced that Ramzy has been placed on administrative leave.
“The Tuscaloosa County School System holds all faculty and staff to high professional and ethical standards,” Johnson stated. “We take all reports of misconduct seriously and fully cooperate with law enforcement to ensure proper resolution. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.”
Recognizing the impact such situations can have on students and the broader school community, Johnson encouraged students to seek support from school counselors if needed. She also reminded the community about the district’s Speak Up for Safety confidential tip line, which allows students to report any concerns securely.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
