Swift Water Rescuers from Alabama Deploy to Florida Ahead of Tropical Storm
Alabama's Vestavia Hills Swift Water Team is heading to Florida to assist in search and rescue operations as a tropical storm approaches the Gulf coast.
As a tropical storm approaches the Florida Gulf coast, a dedicated team of rescuers from Vestavia Hills is preparing to assist in critical search and rescue operations.
Six members of the Vestavia Hills Swift Water Team are mobilizing on Saturday to support Florida in the aftermath of the tropical depression, which is anticipated to intensify within the next 24 hours. The team, comprising personnel from the Vestavia Hills Fire Department, Hoover Fire Department, and Calera Fire Department, announced their deployment in a press release.
“Vestavia Hills Fire Department is always ready to help those in need,” stated Fire Chief Marvin Green. “We take pride in our ability to deploy highly-trained personnel and specialized equipment quickly, ensuring we can make a significant impact and keep everyone as safe as possible.”
This mission was requested by the Florida Division of Emergency Management through the Alabama Mutual Aid System.
The swift water rescue team may be deployed for up to 10 days. Additionally, a second team from the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department will join the effort to provide further assistance.
