Wendy Williams Contests the Guardianship Decision on "The View"
Wendy Williams made a surprising call to The View, pleading for a new guardian and questioning her legal incapacitation. Her emotional statements have reignited discussions about guardianship and autonomy.

On March 14, Wendy Williams unexpectedly called "The View," pleading with the judge who ruled her "legally incapable" and her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, to "get off my neck." In addition, the former talk show host boldly declared, "I need a new guardian."
Since 2022, Williams, a well-liked radio and television personality, has been under guardianship appointed by the court. After being transferred from her assisted living home to a hospital on March 10, her health has once again come under scrutiny.
Williams told the hosts of "The View" that she was hospitalized because she was experiencing some agitation. "And you know, I just needed a breath of fresh air, so I decided to go to the hospital. Look, I live here, at that memory unit on this floor. I had to go to the doctor. I visited the hospital for that reason.
Williams stressed that she chose to get an independent assessment of her mental competence and disclosed that doctors took blood to evaluate her thyroid. "I choose to obtain an impartial assessment of my incapacitation, which I do not currently possess. How can they claim that I am incapacitated? I don't.
She continued by talking about how she feels uncomfortable living with the older people in the memory unit. The only thing I can do is remain on this floor. The level of the memory unit, where adults in their 90s and 80s live and 70... what is the point? Do you understand what I mean? where no one can recall anything. So I spend most of my time in the bedroom. I do not ever eat out. I remain in the bedroom.
Co-host Sunny Hostin read a statement from Williams' guardian's lawyer throughout the show. According to the statement, a judge created the guardianship following Williams' diagnosis of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Additionally, it stated that she is getting first-rate medical treatment and has not been separated from her family.
But Williams brushed these accusations aside and reaffirmed emphatically, "I need them to get off my neck."
Her appearance on "The View" was her most well-known appearance since the conclusion of "The Wendy Williams Show" in June 2022. After Williams took a leave of absence in 2021 owing to health issues related to Graves' illness and lymphedema, the talk program, which debuted in 2008, ended its final season without her as host.
Her frontotemporal dementia and aphasia diagnoses were made public by her team in 2024. While FTD affects behavior and cognitive function, aphasia affects language and communication skills. Williams has voiced her dissatisfaction with her guardianship and is still fighting for her independence in spite of these health issues.
Her heartfelt remarks on "The View" have sparked new discussions around legal guardianships and the autonomy of people with medical diagnoses. Fans and allies continue to keep a close eye on Williams as she battles to take back control of her life in the hopes that a resolution will be reached that complies with her desires.
