Walmart Partners with CenterWell to Reintroduce Senior-Focused Primary Care Centers
Discover how Walmart and CenterWell are bringing senior-focused primary care centers to Walmart Supercenters in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas starting in 2025.
In a significant move, Walmart is set to reintroduce primary care services tailored for seniors, partnering with CenterWell, a healthcare arm of Humana Inc. This comes after Walmart's recent closure of its healthcare centers.
Starting in early 2025, CenterWell will open senior-focused primary care centers in 23 Walmart Supercenter locations. These centers will debut in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas, repurposing spaces previously used by Walmart Health.
"CenterWell is dedicated to providing seniors with accessible, comprehensive, and personalized high-quality healthcare," stated Sanjay Shetty, M.D., president of CenterWell. "These nearly two dozen centers are uniquely designed for seniors, featuring dedicated entrances and convenient parking to ensure the best patient access."
These clinics will be staffed by a robust team including board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, care coaches, social workers, behavioral health specialists, and clinical pharmacists.
Beyond the in-store clinics, CenterWell plans to establish additional senior-focused primary care centers adjacent to Walmart Supercenters in major metropolitan areas such as Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Kansas City.
Previously, in May, Walmart announced the closure of 51 in-store medical centers, just five years after their inception. Despite this, Walmart continues to operate nearly 4,600 pharmacies and 3,000 vision centers across the nation.
