Lions looking to rival the Tide and Tigers' gathering places with move.
[TheChronicle.cc] –The University of North Alabama has officially broken ground on the $65 million Bank Independent Stadium, set to be completed in 2026.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place shortly after the school’s board of trustees approved the design and budget for the project. “Today’s groundbreaking further solidifies our Board’s commitment to fund this capital project,” said Will Trapp, president pro tempore of UNA’s board. “It takes everyone working together—from alumni and friends to community organizations and our naming rights partner, Bank Independent—to make these opportunities impactful.”
To date, $25 million has been raised for the stadium, with the board authorizing UNA to borrow up to $35 million to cover the remaining construction costs.
The approved design features a 10,000-seat capacity, a 360-degree fan concourse, 13 suites, a stadium club, and outdoor gathering areas.
