Tragic Incident in North Alabama: Mother and Son Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide
DeKalb County authorities are investigating a tragic murder-suicide in Grove Oak, where an 84-year-old woman and her 60-year-old son were found dead from gunshot wounds.
Authorities in DeKalb County are currently investigating a heartbreaking incident in the Grove Oak community, where a welfare check on Thursday night led to the discovery of two deceased individuals in their home.
Sheriff Nick Welden reported that deputies, unable to reach the homeowners after multiple attempts, were forced to enter the residence. Inside, they found the bodies of an 84-year-old woman, Beverly Vitale, and her 60-year-old son, Scott Vitale. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Preliminary evidence gathered from the scene suggests that Scott Vitale shot his mother before turning the gun on himself in a tragic act of murder-suicide.
Sheriff Welden extended his gratitude to the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Geraldine Fire Department for their support during the investigation.
“This senseless tragedy leaves us with many unanswered questions, and we may never fully understand the reasons behind it. However, I urge everyone to keep the family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this difficult time,” Welden stated.
