Tragic Collision in North Alabama Claims One Life, Injures Another
An Athens man dies in a two-vehicle crash on Alabama Highway 53. Another individual is injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. ALEA investigates.
A fatal head-on collision occurred on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of an Athens man and serious injuries to another individual.
The crash took place around 4:45 p.m. on Alabama Highway 53, near mile marker 338, approximately four miles southeast of Ardmore in Limestone County, according to Cpl. Reginal King of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
Brandon H. Cooley, 44, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup when he collided head-on with a 2012 Chrysler 200 driven by 26-year-old Courtney G. Aughtman from Madison.
Regrettably, Cooley was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Cpl. King reported.
Aughtman sustained injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment.
The incident is currently under investigation by troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
